Every five years, the nomads organize a festival that lasts 10 days. This tradition is to honour the pristine nature in Tsera. It starts with a camel tour, guided by Kaelan Nomir, from Kaï to Zara. The pride of the Tserarians in these festivities stems not only from their community heritage, but also serves as a symbol that reminds the nomads of their connection to the desert and to one another.
During these 10 days, there are daily camel races, drawing local spectators and a few adventurous travellers who are eager to witness the cultural event that has defined Tsera’s traditions for generations. This race opens with a ceremony led by Kaelan and his father Tariq, reflecting their rightful title as kings of Camels, gifted from the nomads themselves. This celebration also reflects the nomadic people’s bond with camels and their survival in Tsera’s rigid deserts.
Held on the outskirts of our capital Kaï, the race welcomes competitors from all three communities — Kaï, Kharundal, and Zara — for friendly rivalry and festivity. Racers, often lifelong camel handlers, trained extensively for months leading up to the event, showcasing both the speed and agility of their camels. The race is meant to encourage our youth to embrace their heritage and maintain the bond between people and nature.
Alongside the race, a small market offers traditional foods, handmade crafts, and other local products. At night, when the camels are resting and the stars twinkle in the sky, nomads gather around a massive campfire to tell our traditional stories.
